The Book of Magic by Alice Hoffman review — the final volume in her Practical Magic series - The Times

Alice Hoffman has written more than 30 works of fiction. The American has written literary novels for adults, such as 2019's The World That We Knew, its Nazi occupation-set story described by Elizabeth Strout as "a glorious experience". Her acclaimed 2011 historical novel The Dovekeepers, which reimagined the Roman siege of the Jews at Masada, was praised by Toni Morrison (no less) as "beautiful, harrowing, a major contribution to 21st-century literature". Hoffman, now 69, has also written successful novels for children and young adults.
However, her most successful book remains 1995's Practical Magic, a story of modern American witches, which became a 1998 film starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. Recently she has returned to that world, with two prequels, 2017's The
