Brantley “Brant” Dunaway Celebrates the 15th Anniversary of Love in the Time of Cholera - Digital Journal

Atlanta, Georgia, 23rd April 2022, ZEXPRWIRE, Brantley "Brant" Dunaway celebrates the 15th anniversary of Love in the Time of Cholera. The film, based on Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez's novel, premiered fifteen years ago at the Toronto International Film Festival and has since gone on to become a classic. The film adaptation was directed by Mike Newell and starred Javier Bardem, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Benjamin Bratt, Liev Schreiber and John Leguizamo. This year marks its fifteenth anniversary; a time when Brantley Dunaway (founder and CEO of Company B Entertainment) remembers his struggles bringing the international project to fruition. He reminisces about how hard he worked to get it made despite various obstacles, including lack of funds, finding distribution partners that would work on the project and more.

The film has had over 100 million views worldwide and it is as relevant now as ever before. Love in the Time of Cholera was published in 1985 as El amor en los tiempos del cólera. It is the story of the artistic Florentino Ariza, a man who falls hopelessly in love with the wealthy Fermina Daza, only to be rejected by her. He spends the next 50 years devoting himself to carnal affairs in an attempt to mend his heart, while hoping and waiting for her to change her mind. The story engages with the themes of love, aging, and death. It is set between the late 1870s and early 1930s in a South American city, plagued by wars and cholera outbreaks. Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza are reunited after spending their lives apart, and the enduring love they show is juxtaposed with the corporeal decay that surrounds them.

Reminiscing about his time working on the film and the role that it has played in his career, Brantley Dunaway commented:

"Working on Love in the Time of Cholera was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career. It was a passion project that I fought hard to get made, and it's gratifying to see that it has gone on to have such a lasting impact. The film speaks to the human condition in a way that is timeless and relevant, and I'm proud to have been a part of bringing it to life."
