Filming for JK Rowling crime series Strike - Troubled Blood under way in St Mawes and Falmouth - Cornwall Live

Filming for a new series based on books by J.K. Rowling is under way in Cornwall.

Strike - Troubled Blood is the fifth instalment in the TV adaptations of the Harry Potter author's best-selling crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

It is the latest in a series of novels - and now TV show - following the adventures of private detectives Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott.

With the book giving a heavy mention to Cornwall, it's no surprise that the film crew have descended here in the Duchy, with filming taking part this week in St Mawes and Falmouth.

Photos have emerged online as fans travelled down to the set to see the cast in action.

In the previous four series, Strike's backstory has included the fact that he spent a large part of his childhood in Cornwall, growing up with an aunt and uncle in St Mawes.

Troubled Blood even opened in Cornwall with Strike drinking in The Victory Inn in St Mawes with his schoolfriend Dave Polworth.

In the book Strike and Robin also visit Falmouth where they go to The Moor and have coffee in the Palacio Lounge.

J.K. Rowling does have links to the South West, having studied French with Greek and German at the University of Exeter.

War And Peace and The Souvenir actor Tom Burke and The Capture star Holliday Grainger will return to their roles as Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott respectively.

BBC One released a synopsis of the series saying: "Private detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he's approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough, who went missing under mysterious circumstances in 1974.

"Strike's never tackled a cold case, before let alone one 40 years old, but despite the slim chance of success he's intrigued and takes it on, adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency Robin Ellacott are currently working on. And Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

"As Strike and Robin investigate Margot's disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn even cases 40 years old can prove to be deadly."

Strike - Troubled Blood will air on BBC One with filming currently underway.

Past series are currently available to watch online now via BBC iPlayer.
