Porn on Amazon's Kindle app prompts warnings from Apple, Alphabet - Reuters.com

Image
April 18 (Reuters) - Apple Inc (AAPL.O) and Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) have raised concerns with Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) after learning that sexually explicit photographs could be accessed by children on the popular Kindle app and called on Amazon to strengthen its content moderation. The warnings were sparked by questions posed by Reuters to spokespeople at the three companies about users' ability, via the Kindle app, to access and view online volumes of photographs of naked women, with titles such as "75 hot fully nude photos of a young blonde" and "Real Erotica: Amateur Naked Girls – Vol. 4". Some appeared to show women and men engaging in sexual acts. The companies said their concerns were around policy violations but did not provide more details of how their rules were broken or about their warnings to Amazon. Reuters learned of the issue when two families told Reuters their pre-teen sons downloaded the explicit material via Amazon's Kindle Unlimited e-book...

Polygamy (or something like it) rises - MercatorNet

Image
Reconceiving of marriage in terms of "self-expression" has been a terrible, value-laden mistake, betraying the pretensions to liberal neutrality. Plural marriage is inferior for raising children and for maintaining marital harmony; but most of all, in today's climate, it creates a culture dedicated to adult sexual self-expression rather than the good of children and deep love. Public support for polygamy increases inexorably. According to Gallup, nearly a quarter of Americans now think it is morally acceptable when a married person has more than one spouse at the same time, up from 5 percent in 2006. These changes track others chipping away at public support for enduring, man–woman, procreative marriage. Moral approval of sex outside of marriage, same-sex marriage, same-sex sex, divorce, having children outside of marriage, and long-term unmarried cohabitation have risen sharply in recent years. One of the only dams that has not yet broken is the importance of fid...

Brandon Sanderson on Building a Fantasy Empire, Wheel of Time ... - Esquire

Image
"This is my dream," Brandon Sanderson says. We're 30 feet beneath the surface of northern Utah, in a room that feels like a cross between a five-star hotel lobby and a Bond villain's secret base. My ears popped on the way down. Sanderson points to the grand piano, the shelves filled with ammonite fossils, the high walls covered in wood and damask paneling, and his pièce de résistance: a cylindrical aquarium swirling with saltwater fish. "George R. R. Martin bought an old movie theater. Jim Butcher bought a LARPing castle," he says. "I built an underground supervillain lair." This is where Sanderson writes bestselling fantasy and science fiction novels. Many of them take place in an interconnected series of worlds called the Cosmere, his ink-and-paper equivalent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But instead of superheroes defending Earth, Sanderson's warriors, thieves, scholars, and royals are spread across a richly detailed system of planets, f...
